We decided to stay in Zamosc another day because half a day
was just not enough to explore the city and the nearby villages. We started in
the morning and walked to the places we missed yesterday – the palace, the
academy (3rd oldest university in Poland established by Jan Zamoyski
in 1584), the cathedral and then the Jewish synagogue. Then we drove to a very
picturesque small village
of Gorecko Koscielne.
It’s really tiny, probably 100 people or less, but it has a beautiful 18th
century church, a chapel on the river Szum with a healing spring underneath, an
art gallery and a great wooden inn. We also saw at least 30 priests congregated
near the parish house. We are not sure if they all live there or are just
visiting. From there with drove to the nearby Jozefow, a slightly bigger
village whose main attraction was a view tower
overlooking an old quarry. Luckily, there was no entrance fee because
the view was nothing special. Then to a little town of Krasnobrod. It received the town charter in
1572 or 1578, and because of its natural mineral springs, it is a spa town.
However, we had a real problem finding the center of this town. We drove in one
direction, saw a lot of houses, a beautiful baroque church, but nothing that
looked like a town center. The tourist information sent us in the opposite
direction. We drove back and forth a few times, but failed to find any place
that resembled a town center. Finally, we asked some locals and they said there
was no town center, just a few sad looking stores near a roundabout. There was,
however, a manor house we wanted to see, and with some difficulty we did find
it. It now houses a children’s sanatorium. Back in Zamosc, we decided to take a
tour of the underground passages, which turned out to be not exactly what we
expected – underground fortifications, but it was interesting (for Bo because
it was only in Polish). Our pedometer said we walked almost 9 miles today.

OMG! I hope Chairman Kim Jung Un was NOT near the last picture...looking like he was going to blow your brains out...much like he reportedly has done to non-performing staff and advisers in his government. Come home safe - with your brain intact, please!!
